Trekking in the Everest Region of Nepal

Probably the most famous trekking area in the world, the Everest region contains four of Nepal’s 8 peaks that scale over 8,000. Naturally, this region is a prime destination offering a wide range of experience to alpinists and trekkers from all over the world.

Located in northeast Nepal, the Everest region known as Khumbu is part of the Solukhumbu District and is one of the three major settlements of the Sherpa’s. The region’s elevation increases from 3,300 m to 8,848 m, the summit of Mt. Everest (known as Sagarmatha in Nepali). It also encloses Sagarmatha National Park. Further east is the Makalu-Barun National Park. The trekking trails to Everest Base Camp are well developed and there are several routes leading to more remote areas of semi-wilderness in the vast area. Besides the famous town, Namche Bazaar, there are villages of Thami, Khumjung, Pangboche, Pheriche and Kunde and Tengboche monastery
